What we missed
So Close, Yet One Goal Short: SVG 2-1 French Guyana
We called the home win, the goals, the half-time lead. One French Guyana consolation separated us from a clean sweep. Here is what happened.

We got the shape of this game right. We got the winner right. We got first-half goals, second-half goals, over 1.5, and the half-time result right. What we missed was one French Guyana goal that turned our 2-0 exact score call into a 2-1 and cost us the away-side-to-score market too. That is football, and it is worth being honest about.
What We Called, and What We Got
Six markets landed. SVG scored, SVG led at half-time, goals came in both halves, the total sat between one and four, and SVG kept a clean half somewhere in the ninety minutes. The core read, that SVG's form and French Guyana's leaky defence made this a home-controlled contest, held up.
Tom
SVG six goals in one game, French Guyana conceding nearly two per match. Home to score is the clearest market on the board.
He was right. SVG found the net, found it twice, and led 2-0 at the break. The read on French Guyana's defensive frailty was sound, and the half-time call was as clean as it gets.
Where We Fell Short
Two markets missed, and they are connected. We called French Guyana not to score, and we called the exact score at 2-0. French Guyana pulled one back in the second half to make it 2-1, and both calls went with it.
To be fair to ourselves, this was not a blind miss. We flagged the uncertainty at the time.
Sheila
Only 4 shots on target per game though. If SVG set up defensively in the second half it could shut them out. I lean no but it is close.
She said it was close. Tom called it marginal and low conviction. We went with no to French Guyana scoring, and they scored. That is the game. A side that had been leaking goals across a six-match run without a win still found the net when the tie was already done, and that one moment split the difference between a near-perfect card and an honest post-mortem.
The 2-0 exact score was always the tightest call on the board. Without event data we cannot tell you the minute or the name on the goal, but the scoreline tells the story clearly enough. SVG did what we said they would do. French Guyana, despite every number pointing against them, got one back.
What It Means Going Forward
The read on SVG's quality in this competition looks right. A 2-1 win in a Nations League opener, controlling the match from the first whistle through to half-time at 2-0, is exactly the profile we expected from a side that had just demolished Anguilla. They are real in this group.
French Guyana are a more interesting puzzle than the raw numbers suggested. Six games without a win, eleven conceded, and they still score in adverse circumstances. That tells you their attack has more resilience than their overall record implies. Any side facing them in this group should not write off a French Guyana goal, even when the game looks settled.
For us, the lesson is the one we already knew: low-conviction calls are low-conviction for a reason. We said no to French Guyana scoring at the lowest confidence level on the card. That is exactly where the miss came from. Six from eight is a result we can work with. The honest version of this job is knowing the difference between variance and a bad read, and this one was variance.
