What we missed
Atalanta 4-4 Frosinone: We Called the Goals, Not the Madness
We got the direction right and five markets landed. But an eight-goal thriller blew our totals call and left us honest about what we missed.

Eight goals. Eight. We said this was an open, transition-heavy game and we were right in the worst possible way.
What We Got Right
Five markets landed and they were the ones we felt clearest about. Both sides to score, a goal in each half, and over 2.5 were all correct calls, and they reflect the genuine read we had on this fixture. Frosinone had been scoring in every league game and Atalanta, for all their inconsistency, were not toothless at home.
Sheila
Frosinone have scored in every league game this season. Coming to Bergamo doesn't change that.
She was right. Romano Schmid put Frosinone ahead inside the first minute and they ended the afternoon with four goals. The away side to score was never in doubt.
The half-time picture was the first sign we had underestimated the chaos. Atalanta led 3-2 at the break, with Nikola Krstović scoring twice, a penalty converted by Éderson, and Schmid netting twice for Frosinone. We had called away or draw at half-time. Atalanta winning the first half, as Sheila put it at the time, felt like the least likely of the three outcomes. The scoreline disagreed.
Where It Fell Apart
The goals total is the honest conversation. We called 1 to 4 goals and the game produced eight. We knew the risk was there.
Tom
The blowout risk is real given Atalanta's poor defensive form, but it's not the headline scenario.
It became the headline scenario. The second half started with a Frosinone goal on 48 minutes through Giacomo Calò, then Atalanta responded immediately with Elif Elmas on 50. Aleksa Terzić pulled it back to 4-4 for Frosinone on 82 minutes and the game finished all square. Both defences were open throughout and the transition-heavy read was accurate, but we modelled it as a 2 to 3 goal game at its most likely and it turned into something else entirely.
The exact score of 1-2 was always a low-conviction bonus call and 4-4 is not a result anyone was modelling seriously. The clean half market also missed. Frosinone conceded in both halves and Atalanta scored in both. That was the game.
What the Data Still Tells Us
Here is the honest version: the underlying read on Frosinone was correct. They came to Bergamo, scored four goals against a side in poor form, and should have left with something. Their attack is genuine and their ability to create from wide areas, with Farès Ghedjemis assisting twice, was exactly the kind of output we pointed to before kick-off.
Atalanta, meanwhile, showed they can score at home when the game opens up. Krstović with two goals and De Ketelaere involved throughout suggests they are not as toothless as their form line implied. The problem is the defensive shape at both ends was non-existent, and that pushed the game well past what our totals model had as the likely ceiling.
Going forward, when both sides carry genuine attacking threat and one defence has been shipping goals for a month, the blowout scenario deserves more weight than we gave it. We will adjust. That is the call for next time.
